The Challenge

The Robot

Breakaway is a game played on the standard 27 by 54 foot field, with two alliances of three teams each. The field itself is divided into three sections, with bumps and towers acting as dividers. Robots are put, one robot per alliance, into each of the three sections, and are allowed to move freely between sections, provided that they can make it over the bumps or under the tunnels that are beneath each tower. The object of the game is to get soccer balls into the goals positioned at either end of the field. Once a goal is scored, the human players only have a short amount of time to return the ball to the field before their alliance is penalized. During the last 20 seconds of the game, teams may go to their tower and earn bonus points by getting on top of the platform, hanging from the bar, or hanging off of a teammate. Two points are awarded for hanging off the bar and being on the platform, and three are given for hanging off a teammate. This year, we are going to the Silicon Valley and San Diego regionals. See you at the competition!
